The Sons of Martha


Much of the ceremony includes language that was appropriate for the time and social conditions of the Nineteen Twenties, after the First World War when Canada was growing quickly as a nation, but before women were Practicing Engineers in significant numbers. The ceremony is based on the poem “The Sons of Martha,” the symbolism and language of which is less inclusive than what our society values today.
